This policy explains how the Crisper: Food Expiry Tracker iPhone app ("Crisper", "we", "us") handles information. Crisper is built by Pidugu, an independent software studio, and is distributed through the Apple App Store.
The short version: Crisper collects no data about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Your food list stays on your iPhone. The only thing the app sends anywhere is a barcode number, when you scan one, to look up the product's name.
Stored on your device only
- The food you add: names, dates, where it is kept, quantities, prices and notes.
- Your shopping list.
- Your history of what was used and what was thrown away, which the statistics are made from.
- What Crisper has learned about products you added before, so they are quicker to add again.
- Your settings, such as the time of your daily reminder.
This information is kept in the app's private storage on your iPhone, which the app shares only with its own home screen widget. It is not sent to us or anyone else, and the app does not sync it to iCloud. We cannot see it.
Barcode lookups
When you scan or type a barcode that Crisper has not seen before, the app sends that barcode number to Open Food Facts, a public food database, to get the product's name, brand, picture and category. The request contains the barcode number, the app's name and version, and our contact email address, which Open Food Facts asks apps to include. It contains nothing about you: no name, no account, no device identifier and none of your food list.
As with any internet request, Open Food Facts' servers see the IP address the request comes from. Their handling of it is covered by the Open Food Facts privacy policy. Product pictures are loaded from their servers in the same way.
If you scan a barcode without a connection, the app keeps the number on your iPhone and looks it up once you are back online. You can use Crisper without ever scanning a barcode by typing names instead.
Camera and photos
Crisper uses the camera to read barcodes and the dates printed on packaging. The reading happens on your iPhone. Camera images are not saved by the app and are not sent anywhere. If you choose a photo of a label from your library instead, the app reads that one photo on your iPhone and does not keep or send it.
Reminders
Reminders about food that is about to expire are scheduled on your iPhone by the app itself. They do not pass through our servers, because we do not have any.
Purchases
Crisper Pro is bought through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple handles the payment. The app is told only whether Crisper Pro is active; it never sees your name, your payment details or your Apple Account. The start date of your free trial is kept on your iPhone.
Exporting and deleting your data
- Export as spreadsheet in Settings creates a file of your food list that you can save or share. It goes only where you send it.
- Delete everything in Settings erases all food, lists and history from your iPhone.
- Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
Analytics and advertising
Crisper contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting of our own and no third-party SDKs. We do not collect usage data or build a profile of you.
Third parties
- Open Food Facts โ product lookups by barcode, as described above. Product data is available under the Open Database License.
- Apple โ App Store distribution and in-app purchases. Apple may collect information under its own privacy policy when you download apps.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with anyone.
Children's privacy
Crisper is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
We do not hold any personal information about you, so there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete. Your data stays on your device, where you can export or erase it at any time as described above. If you have a question under the GDPR, CCPA or another privacy law, email us and we will respond promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will post the new version here and change the effective date above.
